This free decoder reads the 17-character VIN of a Peugeot scooter and shows three things: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our Peugeot data covers 43 models with model years from 2001 to 2025, from small 50 cc machines such as the Kisbee 50 and Vivacity 50 up to larger ones like the Metropolis and XP 400, with engine sizes between 49 and 493 cc.

The decoder reads only the VIN itself, so it says nothing about accidents, mileage, theft entries or previous owners. That information comes from a vehicle history report.

What the decoder shows for a Peugeot

  • The manufacturer and the country of manufacture, from the first three characters
  • The model year, from the 10th character
  • The assembly plant code and the serial number
  • Whether the check digit fits (a clear sign of a mistyped or altered number in North America)

How the VIN of a Peugeot scooter is read

A VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters (the WMI) identify the manufacturer and the country. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, but each maker codes them in its own way, which is why the decoder sticks to the basics. Character 9 is a check digit, required in North America. Character 10 gives the model year, 11 the assembly plant, and 12 to 17 are the serial number.

The model year is the part most buyers care about. Our Peugeot data runs from 2001 to 2025, and in the tenth position a 1 stands for 2001, an A for 2010 and an S for 2025. That lets you check whether a Speedfight, a Django 125 or a Pulsion 125 really belongs to the year in the advert. On a scooter the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and it is also printed on a plate or sticker and in the registration papers. If the number you find is shorter than 17 characters, it is an older-style frame number that a VIN decoder cannot read.

Questions and answers

Where do I find the VIN on a Peugeot scooter?

Look at the frame first, often near the steering head, where the VIN is usually stamped. It is also on a plate or sticker and in the registration papers, so you can compare all of them.

What do the first characters of the VIN tell me?

Characters 1 to 3 identify the manufacturer and the country where the vehicle was made. The decoder turns them into plain text, so you do not need to look up the code yourself.

How do I know the model year of my scooter?

The tenth character of the VIN stands for the model year. Our Peugeot data covers 2001 to 2025, and the decoder shows the year for you when you enter the full 17 characters.

What can the decoder not show me?

It does not show mileage, accidents, theft entries or owners, because none of that is stored in a VIN. It also cannot read frame numbers shorter than 17 characters, which can occur on older machines.

What should I check before buying a used Peugeot scooter?

Compare the VIN on the frame with the one in the registration papers and on the plate or sticker, and make sure the model year fits the advert. Then look at the machine itself and ask the seller about its history and service records.
