Enter the 17-character VIN of a Generic scooter and the decoder shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. It is free and needs no registration. Our data for the brand covers 26 models from 2006 to 2012, among them the Code 125, Code 150, Code 200, Epico, Trigger 50, Vendetta, Xor 125 and Racy 50, with engines from 49 to 275 cc.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft entries or owners. That information comes from a vehicle history report, which is a paid service.
The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country, and characters 4 to 8 describe the machine itself. Each maker codes those five characters in its own way, so they are not the same across brands. Character 9 is a check digit, which is required in North America. Character 10 gives the model year, which for the Generic scooters in our data means somewhere between 2006 and 2012. Character 11 marks the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The letters I, O and Q are never used.
On a scooter the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and repeated on a plate or sticker. It is also written in the registration papers, so you can compare all three. Names such as Trigger 50 and Trigger 125, or Racy 50 and Racy 125, only tell you the model on paper. The VIN is what ties the individual machine to its year and origin. If the number on a scooter has fewer than 17 characters, the decoder cannot read it, because shorter frame numbers belong to older machines or to other numbering schemes.
The decoder reads the number. A history report looks for the records tied to it.
Generic history reportLook at the frame first, often near the steering head, where the number is usually stamped into the metal. It may also be on a plate or sticker, and it is printed in the registration papers.
Characters 1 to 3 identify the manufacturer and the country where the vehicle was built. The decoder uses them to name the manufacturer and the country of manufacture.
The model year is coded in character 10 of the VIN, and the decoder translates it for you. Our data for Generic covers model years 2006 to 2012.
It reads only the VIN, so it gives the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft entries and previous owners are not stored in the number.
Compare the VIN on the frame with the number on the plate and in the registration papers, and make sure the characters match exactly. Check that the model and engine size in the papers, such as 50 cc or 125 cc, fit the scooter in front of you.
