The Kymco VIN decoder reads the 17-character VIN and tells you the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data covers 86 Kymco models from 1998 to 2025, from the Agility 50 and Like 50 to the MXU 700 and AK 550. Most are scooters, with some atv, sport and custom / cruiser machines in the mix. The decoder is free and needs no registration.

The decoder does not show accidents, mileage, theft entries or previous owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. That information comes from a vehicle history report.

What the decoder shows for a Kymco

  • The manufacturer and the country of manufacture, from the first three characters
  • The model year, from the 10th character
  • The assembly plant code and the serial number
  • Whether the check digit fits (a clear sign of a mistyped or altered number in North America)

How to read the VIN of a Kymco scooter

A modern VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three identify the manufacturer and the country (the WMI). Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and each maker codes them in its own way, so they differ between, say, a Like 50 and an MXU 500. Character 9 is the check digit, which is required in North America. Character 10 gives the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. Since our Kymco data runs from 1998 to 2025, a machine from that range should carry a full 17-character VIN.

On a scooter the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and repeated on a plate or sticker. You will also find it in the registration papers, so you can compare the two. Check it carefully before typing it in, since a single wrong character changes the result. Frame numbers on much older machines can be shorter than 17 characters, and a VIN decoder cannot read those.

Questions and answers

Where do I find the VIN on a Kymco scooter?

It is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and may also be on a plate or sticker. The same number is printed in the registration papers.

What do the first characters of a Kymco VIN mean?

The first three characters are the WMI and identify the manufacturer and the country. The next five describe the machine, such as the model and engine, but the coding is set by the maker.

How do I find the model year of my Kymco?

The tenth character of the VIN stands for the model year, and the decoder translates it for you. Our Kymco data covers model years 1998 to 2025.

What can the decoder not show me?

It reads only the VIN itself, so you get the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft entries and owners are not part of a VIN.

What should I check before buying a used Kymco?

Compare the VIN stamped into the frame with the number on the plate and in the registration papers, and make sure all of them match. Then check that the model and engine size in the papers, for example 50, 125 or 300 cc, fit the machine in front of you.
