A list of example VINs you can paste into the free decoder to see how a VIN reads. They follow the real structure of each brand's numbers but are built for demonstration, so they do not belong to a particular car.

Every VIN has 17 characters. The first three identify the manufacturer and the country, characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, the ninth is a check digit, the tenth is the model year, the eleventh is the plant and the last six are the serial number.
The examples above all end in a serial number that counts up from 000001. A real car gets its serial number in production, so these numbers are for trying the decoder, not for checking a vehicle you want to buy.
To find the real VIN of a car, look at the base of the windshield on the driver's side, on the door frame or in the registration document.
A VIN built to follow the structure of real numbers, used to test or explain how a decoder works. Its serial number does not belong to a known car.
Yes. Each one is a valid 17-character number: the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country, and for the North American examples the check digit is correct too.
No. They are built for demonstration with sequential serial numbers. If one happens to match a real car, that is a coincidence, and the decoder only shows factory data anyway.
On the dashboard at the base of the windshield, on the driver's door frame and in the registration document. Compare all three.
