Enter the 17-character VIN of a SYM scooter and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data covers 65 SYM models from 1997 to 2025, from small 49 cc machines such as the Fiddle 50, Jet 50 and Mio 50 up to larger ones like the Cruisym 300, Maxsym 400 and Maxsym 500. The decoder is free and needs no registration.

The VIN itself holds no accident entries, mileage readings, theft records or owner details. That information comes from a vehicle history report, which you can order separately once you have the VIN.

What the decoder shows for a SYM

  • The manufacturer and the country of manufacture, from the first three characters
  • The model year, from the 10th character
  • The assembly plant code and the serial number
  • Whether the check digit fits (a clear sign of a mistyped or altered number in North America)

How to read the VIN of a SYM scooter

A modern VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are not used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country, which is what the decoder turns into plain text. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, but every maker codes them in its own way, so the free decoder does not tell a Jet 50 from a Jet 200 or a Symphony 125 from a Symphony 200. Character 9 is a check digit, required in North America. Character 10 is the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.

On a scooter the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and repeated on a plate or sticker. It is also printed in the registration papers. Our SYM data runs from 1997 to 2025, and the model year in position 10 is how you tell, say, an early Symphony 50 from a recent ADX 125 or Crox 50. A frame number shorter than 17 characters cannot be read by a VIN decoder, which mostly affects machines built before 1981.

Questions and answers

Where do I find the VIN on a SYM scooter?

Look for a stamping on the frame, often near the steering head, and for a plate or sticker carrying the same number. The VIN is also in the registration papers, so you can check the machine against the document.

What do the first characters of a SYM VIN mean?

The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country where the vehicle was built. The decoder reads them for you and shows the result as plain text.

How do I find the model year of a SYM?

The model year is coded in the 10th character of the VIN, and the decoder translates it for you. Our SYM data covers model years 1997 to 2025.

What can the free decoder not show?

It reads only the VIN, so it cannot show accidents, mileage, theft entries or previous owners. It also does not name the exact model or engine size, since characters 4 to 8 are coded differently by each maker.

What should I check before buying a used SYM scooter?

Compare the VIN on the frame with the plate and the registration papers, and make sure it has 17 characters. Then check that the model name and engine size in the papers, anywhere from 49 to 565 cc in our data, fit the machine in front of you.
