Enter the VIN of a Linhai scooter to read what the number says.
The Linhai VIN decoder reads the 17-character VIN and shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our catalogue holds 12 Linhai models, among them Aeolus 260, Aeolus 300, Drive In 125, Drive In 150, Eggy, Main Street, Prince and Monarch, with model years from 2003 to 2023. Engine sizes in the data run from 49 to 352 cc, and the highest power listed is 19 hp.
The decoder is free and needs no registration, but it only reads the characters of the VIN itself, so accidents, mileage, theft entries and previous owners do not appear in the result. That information comes from a vehicle history report.

A VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country, and characters 4 to 8 describe the machine itself, coded in the maker's own way. Character 9 is a check digit, which is required in North America. Character 10 gives the model year, which for the Linhai models in our data falls somewhere between 2003 and 2023. Character 11 points to the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. So a Prince and a Drive In 125 built in the same year share the same year character but differ in the descriptive block and the serial number.
On a scooter the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and it is also printed on a plate or sticker. You will find it in the registration papers too. 17-character VINs apply to vehicles built since 1981, and a frame number shorter than that cannot be read by a VIN decoder. Type it in exactly as stamped, keeping in mind that a letter O is really a zero and that I and Q do not occur.
The decoder reads the number. A history report looks for the records tied to it.

Characters 1 to 3 identify the manufacturer and the country where the vehicle was built. The decoder translates them for you, so you do not need to look up the code yourself.
The model year is coded in character 10 of the VIN, and the decoder turns it into a year. For Linhai, our data covers model years 2003 to 2023.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft entries or past owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also cannot read frame numbers that are shorter than 17 characters, as found on some older machines.
Compare the VIN stamped in the frame with the plate and the registration papers, and make sure all three match and the stamping looks untouched. Then decode it and check that the model year and country fit what the seller tells you about the scooter.
