Enter the 17-character VIN of an Italjet scooter and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. It is free and needs no registration. Our catalogue holds 10 Italjet models with model years from 1997 to 2024, among them the Dragster 125, Dragster 200, Dragster 50, Velocifero 50, Fast Boy, Formula 125, Pit Jet and Jack.

The VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft entries or previous owners. That information comes from a vehicle history report, which is a separate paid service and not part of the decoder.

What the decoder shows for a Italjet

  • The manufacturer and the country of manufacture, from the first three characters
  • The model year, from the 10th character
  • The assembly plant code and the serial number
  • Whether the check digit fits (a clear sign of a mistyped or altered number in North America)

How to read the VIN of an Italjet scooter

A modern VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country, the so-called WMI. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and each maker codes them in its own way, so the decoder does not turn them into engine size or trim. Character 9 is a check digit, required in North America. Character 10 is the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. For an Italjet, the tenth character is what places the scooter somewhere between 1997 and 2024, the span covered in our data.

On a scooter the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and repeated on a plate or sticker. You will also find it in the registration papers, so compare all three. Our Italjet data runs from a Formula 50 or Dragster 50 up to engines of 450 cc, and includes seven scooters, one prototype or concept model, one minibike or cross model and one enduro or offroad model. Whatever the model, the VIN is read the same way. Machines built before 1981 can carry shorter frame numbers, which a VIN decoder cannot read.

Questions and answers

Where do I find the VIN on an Italjet scooter?

Look at the frame first, usually near the steering head, where the VIN is normally stamped into the metal. It is often also printed on a plate or sticker and listed in the registration papers.

What do the first characters of an Italjet VIN mean?

The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country where the scooter was built. The decoder uses them to show who made the vehicle and where.

How do I find the model year of my Italjet?

The tenth character of the VIN is the model year. Enter the full 17 characters and the decoder shows it, whether your scooter is from the late 1990s or a recent year up to 2024.

What can the decoder not show about an Italjet?

It reads only the VIN, so it gives the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft entries and owners are not stored in the VIN, and the decoder does not report engine size or power.

What should I check before buying a used Italjet?

Make sure the VIN on the frame matches the plate and the registration papers, and look for signs of scratching or re-stamping around the number. Ask for service records and test the scooter, and be aware that older machines may have a short frame number instead of a 17-character VIN.
