Enter the VIN of a Sachs scooter to read what the number says.
Enter the 17-character VIN of a Sachs and the decoder reads out the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our Sachs data covers 21 models from 1997 to 2017, from the Bee 50 and XTC 50 up to the Roadster 800, with engines from 49 to 805 cc and a highest output of 58 hp. The decoder is free and needs no registration.
The VIN does not say anything about accidents, mileage, theft entries or previous owners. That information comes from a vehicle history report, and the decoder result is a good starting point before you look into it.

The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country, and characters 4 to 8 describe the machine itself. Each maker codes that middle block in its own way, so a Bee 125 and a MadAss 125 will not follow one shared pattern you could work out by hand. Character 9 is a check digit, required in North America. Character 10 gives the model year, so a Sachs from 1997 shows a V there and one from 2017 an H. Character 11 marks the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The letters I, O and Q are never used.
On a scooter the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and repeated on a plate or sticker. It is also printed in the registration papers, so you can compare all three. Machines built since 1981 carry 17 characters. Some older or smaller machines, such as a 49er or Eagle 50 with a shorter frame number, may not be readable by the decoder. In that case check the number against the papers and look for a stamped frame number.
The decoder reads the number. A history report looks for the records tied to it.

Characters 1 to 3 identify the manufacturer and the country of manufacture. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and each maker codes them in its own way.
The model year is coded in character 10 of the VIN, and the decoder translates it for you. Our Sachs data runs from 1997 to 2017, so results for a 17-character VIN should fall in that range.
It reads only the VIN itself, so it shows manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft entries and owners are not stored in the VIN.
Compare the VIN on the frame with the one on the plate and in the registration papers, and make sure they match. Then inspect the scooter in person, ask for service records, and check that the engine size in the papers fits the machine in front of you.
