The Genuine Scooter VIN decoder reads the 17-character VIN and tells you the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data covers 15 Genuine Scooter models, from Buddy 125, Buddy 170 and Buddy 50 to Italy 150, Italy 50, Pamplona and St. Tropez, with model years from 2005 to 2025. Engine sizes in the data run from 49 to 397 cc, and the highest power listed is 26 hp.

The decoder does not show accidents, mileage, theft entries or previous owners, because none of that is stored in a VIN. That information comes from a vehicle history report.

What the decoder shows for a Genuine Scooter

  • The manufacturer and the country of manufacture, from the first three characters
  • The model year, from the 10th character
  • The assembly plant code and the serial number
  • Whether the check digit fits (a clear sign of a mistyped or altered number in North America)

How to read the VIN of a Genuine Scooter scooter

A VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three identify the manufacturer and the country, characters 4 to 8 describe the machine in a code that each maker defines for itself, and character 9 is a check digit, which is required in North America. Character 10 is the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. For a Genuine Scooter built between 2005 and 2025, whether a Stella, a Blur or a Hooligan, the model year decoded from position 10 should fall inside that range.

On a scooter the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and it is also printed on a plate or sticker. You will find it in the registration papers too, so you can compare all three. Machines built before 1981 can carry shorter frame numbers, which a VIN decoder cannot read, but the Genuine Scooter models in our data, from Pamplona to Buddy 125, are all from 2005 or later.

Questions and answers

Where do I find the VIN on a Genuine Scooter?

Look for a stamped number on the frame, often near the steering head, and for a plate or sticker with the same 17 characters. It is also written in the registration papers.

What do the first characters of the VIN mean?

The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country where the vehicle was built. Characters 4 to 8 then describe the machine, and each maker codes them in its own way.

How is the model year of a Genuine Scooter shown in the VIN?

The model year is the 10th character. The decoder translates it for you, and for the models in our data, such as Venture, Black Jack or Rattler, the years covered are 2005 to 2025.

What can the decoder not show me?

It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft entries or owners, since a VIN does not contain them. It reads only the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture.

What should I check before buying a used Genuine Scooter?

Compare the VIN on the frame, on the plate or sticker and in the registration papers, and make sure they match exactly. Check that the decoded model year fits what the seller tells you, and look closely at the stamped number for signs of tampering.
