Enter the VIN of a Husqvarna motorcycle to read what the number says.
Enter the 17-character VIN of a Husqvarna motorcycle and the decoder shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. It is free and needs no registration. Our Husqvarna catalogue covers 126 models from 1980 to the present, with engine sizes from 49 to 898 cc and a highest power of 105 hp.
The VIN itself holds no accidents, mileage, theft entries or owners. That information comes from a vehicle history report.
126 models in our data, newest first.
A VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three identify the manufacturer and the country, the so-called WMI. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and each maker codes them in its own way. Character 9 is the check digit, which is required in North America. The 10th character gives the model year, the 11th the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
On a motorcycle the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and repeated on a plate or sticker. It is also in the registration papers. Our Husqvarna data starts at 1980, but 17-character VINs apply to vehicles built since 1981, so a 1980 machine may carry a shorter frame number that a decoder cannot read. For later bikes, whether a TC 85 minibike-class motocrosser, an FE 501 enduro, a 701 Supermoto or a Svartpilen 801 SE, the same 17-character layout applies.
The decoder reads the number. A history report looks for the records tied to it.

The first three characters are the WMI and identify the manufacturer and the country. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and the maker decides how they are coded.
The 10th character stands for the model year, and the decoder translates it for you. This matters because a model name alone does not tell you the year. Our data covers 1980 to the present, but VINs of 17 characters only apply to machines built since 1981.
It reads only the VIN, so it shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft entries and previous owners are not stored in the VIN.
Compare the VIN on the frame, on the plate and in the papers, and look for signs that the stamping has been altered. Check that the machine matches what is advertised, for example enduro, super motard or motocross, and the engine size. Ask for service records and the owner history.
