Enter the VIN of a Aprilia motorcycle to read what the number says.
The Aprilia VIN decoder reads the 17-character VIN and shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. It is free and needs no registration. Our catalogue lists 228 Aprilia motorcycles from 1977 to the present, from small machines like the SXR 50 and RS 125 to the Tuono 660, RS 660 and RS 457, and some of these models are still built.
The decoder reads only the VIN, so it cannot tell you about accidents, mileage, theft entries or previous owners. That information comes from a vehicle history report, a paid service that is separate from this free tool.

The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and each maker codes them in its own way, so they do not translate the same way from brand to brand. Character 9 is a check digit, required in North America. Character 10 gives the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The letters I, O and Q are never used, which helps when a stamped number is hard to read.
On a motorcycle the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and repeated on a plate or sticker. You will also find it in the registration papers, so compare all three. Our Aprilia data starts at model year 1977, but 17-character VINs apply only to vehicles built since 1981. An early machine can carry a shorter frame number that a VIN decoder cannot read. A newer one, such as an RS 660, Tuono 660 or Tuareg 660, should have the full 17 characters.
The decoder reads the number. A history report looks for the records tied to it.

Characters 1 to 3 identify the manufacturer and the country where the machine was built. The decoder reads them for you, so you do not need to look up the code yourself.
The model year is coded in character 10 of the VIN, and the decoder translates it. Our catalogue covers Aprilia models from 1977 to the present, but machines built before 1981 may have a shorter frame number that cannot be decoded.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft entries or owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also does not give details such as engine size or power.
Compare the VIN stamped on the frame with the plate and the registration papers, and make sure they match and that no characters look altered. Then inspect the machine in person, and ask the seller for service records and proof of ownership.
