Enter the VIN of a Kawasaki motorcycle to read what the number says.
Enter the 17-character VIN of a Kawasaki motorcycle and the decoder shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. It is free and needs no registration. Our Kawasaki catalogue lists 457 models from 1974 to the present, including the KLX 110, Z650S, Z 900RS, Eliminator 450 and Ninja H2.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft entries or owners. That information comes from a vehicle history report, so use the decoder first to confirm the basics of the bike in front of you.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are not used. Characters 1 to 3 identify the manufacturer and the country. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and each maker codes them in its own way, so they cannot be read without that maker's key. Character 9 is a check digit, required in North America. Character 10 is the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 the serial number. The model year is useful when you compare a bike with its advert, for example a KLR 650, a KX 450 or a Ninja 650 sold with a stated year.
On a motorcycle the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and it is also printed on a plate or sticker and in the registration papers. Our Kawasaki data reaches back to 1974, but 17-character VINs apply to vehicles built since 1981. A machine from the 1970s may carry a shorter frame number that a VIN decoder cannot read. The decoder will not tell you engine size or type either. Our data covers engines from 1 to 2053 cc, with a highest power of 310 hp, and the main types are custom / cruiser (34 models), sport (27), naked bike (22) and enduro / offroad (17).
The decoder reads the number. A history report looks for the records tied to it.
Kawasaki history reportLook at the frame first, often near the steering head, where the VIN is usually stamped. It is also on a plate or sticker and in the registration papers.
Characters 1 to 3 identify the manufacturer and the country where the bike was made. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and each maker uses its own coding for them.
The model year is the 10th character of the VIN, and the decoder reads it for you. This applies to 17-character VINs, so a Kawasaki built before 1981 may have a shorter frame number that the decoder cannot read.
It reads only the VIN, so it gives the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft entries and owners are not stored in the VIN.
Compare the VIN on the frame with the one on the plate or sticker and in the registration papers, and make sure they match. Then check that the decoded model year fits the model and year in the advert.
