Enter the VIN of a GASGAS motorcycle to read what the number says.
Enter a 17-character VIN and this GASGAS decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. It is free and needs no registration. Our catalogue lists 84 GASGAS motorcycles across model years 1997 to 2025, with names such as EC 125, EC 450, MC 50, MC 85, TXT 280, ES 700 and MC-E 5, and engine sizes from 49 to 693 cc, with up to 74 hp in our data.
The decoder reads only the VIN itself, and a VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft entries or previous owners. That information comes from a vehicle history report.

A VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are not used. Characters 1 to 3 identify the manufacturer and the country. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and each maker codes them in its own way. Character 9 is a check digit, which is required in North America. Character 10 gives the model year, which is how a VIN can be placed anywhere in the 1997 to 2025 span of our GASGAS data. Character 11 marks the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
On a motorcycle the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and repeated on a plate or sticker. It is also printed in the registration papers. Our GASGAS data starts at model year 1997, so a TXT 250, an MC 85 or an EC 300 from that period should carry a full 17-character VIN. Frame numbers shorter than 17 characters, as found on machines built before 1981, cannot be read by a VIN decoder.
The decoder reads the number. A history report looks for the records tied to it.
GASGAS history reportLook at the frame first, usually around the steering head, where the VIN is normally stamped into the metal. It may also appear on a plate or sticker, and it is written in the registration papers.
The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country where the machine was built. Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine itself, but each maker codes them differently.
The tenth character of the VIN encodes the model year. The decoder reads it for you, and our GASGAS data covers model years 1997 to 2025.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft entries or owners, because none of these are stored in the VIN. It also cannot read frame numbers shorter than 17 characters.
Compare the VIN stamped in the frame with the one on the plate and in the registration papers, and check that the characters match and look untouched. Then decode it to see whether the manufacturer, model year and country fit what the seller tells you.
