The Beta VIN decoder reads a 17-character VIN and returns the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data covers 72 Beta motorcycle models from 1987 to 2025, from the RR 50 and Minicross up to the RR 480 and RS 500, with engine sizes from 49 to 510 cc. Enduro and offroad machines are the largest group (15), followed by trial (13), with scooters, minibikes and cross models making up the rest, and the highest power in our data is 27 hp.

The decoder does not show accident history, mileage, theft entries or previous owners, because none of that is stored in a VIN. That information comes from a vehicle history report. The decoder itself is free and needs no registration.

What the decoder shows for a Beta

  • The manufacturer and the country of manufacture, from the first three characters
  • The model year, from the 10th character
  • The assembly plant code and the serial number
  • Whether the check digit fits (a clear sign of a mistyped or altered number in North America)

How the VIN of a Beta motorcycle is read

A modern VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three identify the manufacturer and the country (the WMI). Characters 4 to 8 describe the machine, and each maker codes them in its own way, so they say little without the maker's own tables. The 9th is a check digit, required in North America. The 10th is the model year, the 11th the assembly plant, and 12 to 17 are the serial number. Our Beta data runs from 1987 to 2025, and since the year character repeats after 30 years, a 1987 and a 2017 machine share the same one. The rest of the VIN and the model name help you tell them apart.

On a motorcycle the VIN is usually stamped into the frame, often near the steering head, and repeated on a plate or sticker. It is also in the registration papers, so you can compare all three. The same applies whether the bike is an RR 125, an Xtrainer 300, an Alp 350 or a Minitrial. Machines built before 17-character VINs became standard in 1981 can carry shorter frame numbers, which a VIN decoder cannot read.

Questions and answers

Where do I find the VIN on a Beta motorcycle?

Look at the frame first, often near the steering head, where the VIN is usually stamped. It may also be on a plate or sticker, and it is printed in the registration papers.

What do the first characters of a Beta VIN mean?

The first three characters identify the manufacturer and the country of manufacture. The decoder reads them for you, so you do not need to look up the code yourself.

How do I find the model year of a Beta?

The 10th character of the VIN is the model year code, and the decoder translates it. Our Beta data covers 1987 to 2025, and because the code repeats every 30 years, check the result against the bike itself and its papers.

What can the Beta VIN decoder not show?

It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft entries or owners, since a VIN does not contain them. It also cannot read the shorter frame numbers found on some older machines.

What should I check before buying a used Beta?

Compare the VIN on the frame with the one on the plate and in the registration papers, and make sure they match. Then check that the model year and country from the decoder fit what the seller tells you, for example an RR 300 or an Evo 250 listed as a different year.
