Enter the 17-character VIN of a Yangwang and the decoder reads what is written into it: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data covers two Yangwang models, the U8 and the U9, with SUV as the body style and model years from 2023 to the present, since some models are still being built.
A VIN describes how the car was specified when it was made, not what has happened to it since. Accidents, mileage, theft records and previous owners are not stored in it, and that information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder itself is free and needs no registration.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI, which tells you who built the vehicle and in which country. We do not yet have any WMI codes mapped to Yangwang, so there is no list of prefixes to show here. That is a gap in our data and says nothing about any particular VIN.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. The check digit is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position differently. The tenth character is the model year. For a Yangwang built within our range, P means 2023, R means 2024, S means 2025 and T means 2026. Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number of that individual car.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look at the registration document first, since the VIN is printed there. On the car, it is usually visible at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side and on a plate or sticker in the door frame. Compare these against the paperwork and make sure they match.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI codes mapped to Yangwang at the moment, so we cannot list any here. The decoder still reads the other parts of the VIN, such as the model year character.
Check the tenth character. A P stands for 2023, R for 2024, S for 2025 and T for 2026. Our version data for the brand starts in 2023.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft status or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also does not tell you the condition of the car or whether its service work was done.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the one in the documents, and decode it to confirm that the model year fits the listing. Then inspect the car in person and ask the seller for service records. Our data lists the U8 and U9, so check that the model named in the advert is one of these.
