Enter the 17-character VIN of a Xin Kai and the decoder reads what the number itself holds: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. It is free and needs no registration. Our data for the brand lists three models, PICKUP X3, SR-V X3 and SUV X3, in two body styles, Pickup and SUV, with version data for model years 2003 to 2017 and a highest power figure of 157 hp.
A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, so the decoder cannot show them. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. Characters 1 to 3 are the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI), characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 gives the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The check digit is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position in a different way.
For Xin Kai we do not currently have any WMI codes on file, and so no country of manufacture linked to them. Our list of codes is not complete, so a Xin Kai VIN that begins with other characters is nothing to worry about. The decoder simply has fewer details to show for it.
The model year is the easiest part to check by hand. Look at the 10th character: 3 stands for 2003, A for 2010 and H for 2017. Those years fall within the 2003 to 2017 range of our Xin Kai version data. Letters and digits for other years follow the standard sequence, which is why the 10th character is worth reading together with the model and body style rather than on its own.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.
Enter the 17-character VIN and see the factory basics in seconds.
The VIN is normally printed in the vehicle registration documents and stamped on the vehicle itself, often visible at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side or on a plate in the door frame. Copy all 17 characters exactly, and remember that I, O and Q never appear.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI codes on file for Xin Kai yet, and our list is not complete, so a VIN starting with any characters can still be entered.
Read the 10th character. For example, 3 means 2003, A means 2010 and H means 2017, which covers the span of our Xin Kai version data from 2003 to 2017.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. The decoder only reads the 17 characters and tells you the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture where the data allows.
Make sure the VIN on the registration documents matches the one stamped on the vehicle, and that all 17 characters are intact. Then check that the model year character fits the year in the advert, and that the body style, Pickup or SUV, matches what you are being sold.
