Enter a 17-character VIN and the decoder reads what is built into it: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. For Weltmeister, our data covers five models, E5, EX5, EX6, W5 and W6, in Sedan and SUV body styles, with model years from 2018 to 2022.
The decoder is free and needs no registration, but it only reads the VIN itself. Accidents, mileage, theft records and previous owners are not stored in those 17 characters. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. Right now we have no WMI codes mapped to Weltmeister, so we cannot list any here. Our list is not complete, and a VIN that starts with characters we do not recognise is not a problem in itself.
The tenth character gives the model year. For the years in our Weltmeister data, the letters are J for 2018, K for 2019, L for 2020, M for 2021 and N for 2022. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 11 usually marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The ninth is a check digit. It is required in North America, while many European VINs fill it differently.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side, on the sticker in the door frame, and in the registration documents. Copy all 17 characters exactly as printed.
The first three characters are the WMI, which names the manufacturer and the country. We currently have no WMI codes mapped to Weltmeister, so the decoder may not name the manufacturer from them. Our list is incomplete, so that says nothing about the VIN itself.
Check the tenth character. In the range covered by our data, J means 2018, K 2019, L 2020, M 2021 and N 2022.
It shows nothing about accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, because none of that is part of the VIN. It also cannot tell you the condition of a particular car.
Compare the VIN on the car with the one in the documents, and make sure every character matches. Then see the car in person, ask for service records, and have it inspected if you are unsure.
