Enter a 17-character VIN and the Venturi decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from it. Our data for the brand covers four models, among them the 210, 260, 300 and 400, with version data for model years 1984 to 1998. The body style in our data is Convertible, and the highest power figure we hold is 408 hp.
The decoder is free and needs no registration, but it only reads the VIN itself. Accidents, mileage, theft records and previous owners are not stored in those 17 characters. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
A VIN has 17 characters and never uses the letters I, O or Q. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 gives the model year, character 11 the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
We do not currently have a WMI code mapped to Venturi, so there is no code to list here and no country to name from one. That is a gap in our list and says nothing about any particular VIN. If you enter a Venturi VIN, the decoder will show whatever it can read from it.
The model year character is the easiest part to check. Our Venturi data runs from 1984 to 1998, which corresponds to the letters E for 1984, N for 1992, S for 1995 and W for 1998 in position 10. Character 9 is a mandatory check digit in North America, while many European VINs fill it in differently, so do not rely on it alone.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look in the registration papers first, then find the number on the car itself, usually on a plate or stamped into the body. The exact position differs from car to car, so compare what is on the car with the paperwork.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We do not yet have a WMI code mapped to Venturi, so we cannot list one here.
Read the 10th character. For the years in our Venturi data, E means 1984, N means 1992, S means 1995 and W means 1998. The decoder does this for you when you enter the full VIN.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, because none of that is part of a VIN. It also does not tell you the condition of a particular car.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the registration documents and that the model year the decoder gives fits the car you are being offered. Then ask for service records and have the car inspected in person, as the VIN alone says nothing about its condition.
