Enter a 17-character VIN and the decoder tells you the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture, as far as the number itself carries that information. Our data for Trumpchi covers 8 models, among them the GA4, GE3, GM8/M8, GN6/M6, GS3, GS4, GS5 and GS8, in Sedan and SUV body styles. The version data starts at model year 2015 and runs to the present, since some models are still built, and the highest power figure in it is 252 hp.
The VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, so the decoder cannot show any of that. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, while the decoding on this page is free and needs no registration.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is the check digit, character 10 is the model year, character 11 the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 the serial number.
At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Trumpchi, and for that reason we cannot list the countries behind them. Our WMI list is not complete, so a VIN that starts with any characters is simply decoded with the information we have, and nothing is implied about the number itself. The check digit is required in North America, while many European VINs fill position 9 differently, so do not judge a VIN by that character alone.
The model year is the part you can read yourself. Our Trumpchi data begins at 2015, which is the letter F in position 10. A car from 2020 carries L there, and a 2023 car carries P. Check this letter against the year printed on the registration papers.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is normally printed on a plate visible through the lower corner of the windscreen on the driver's side, and it is also in the registration papers. Many cars carry it stamped on the body as well, for example in the door frame or under the bonnet. Compare the number on the car with the one in the papers character by character.
The first three characters form the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We do not currently have any WMI codes mapped to Trumpchi, so we cannot name a specific code here. The decoder will still read whatever the VIN itself and our data allow.
Look at the 10th character. F stands for 2015, G for 2016, H for 2017, J for 2018 and K for 2019, and L for 2020, M for 2021, N for 2022, P for 2023, R for 2024, S for 2025 and T for 2026. Our version data for the brand starts in 2015.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of previous owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also does not give equipment lists or the condition of the car.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the registration papers and that the tenth character fits the stated model year. Look over the body and interior, ask for service records and take a test drive. Only buy once the paperwork and the car agree with each other.
