Enter the 17-character VIN of a Tramontana and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture straight from the characters. Our data for the brand covers one model, the XTR, built as a Roadster, with model years from 2015 to the present. The decoder is free and needs no registration.
A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.

Every VIN built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We have no WMI codes mapped to Tramontana at the moment, so there is no list of codes or countries to show here. Our WMI list is not complete, and that says nothing about any particular VIN.
Characters 4 to 8 form the descriptor, where the manufacturer encodes details of the vehicle. Character 9 is a check digit. It is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position differently, so it is not a reliable test on its own.
The tenth character gives the model year. For a Tramontana XTR, a data range starting in 2015 means F stands for 2015 and G for 2016, then H for 2017, J for 2018 and K for 2019. The eleventh character marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look at the registration documents first, where the VIN is printed in full. On the car itself it is usually found at the base of the windscreen or on a plate in the door frame. Copy all 17 characters exactly, since I, O and Q never appear.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We have no WMI codes mapped to Tramontana yet, so we cannot list any here. Our list is incomplete, so a VIN starting with other characters is not a cause for concern.
Check the tenth character. F means 2015, G means 2016 and H means 2017. Our version data for the XTR starts in 2015 and runs to the present.
It reads only the VIN, so it gives the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft records and the number of owners are not stored in the VIN.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the one in the documents, character by character. Then compare the decoded model year with what the seller tells you. Since our data lists the XTR as a Roadster, also check that the car in front of you fits that description.
