This page decodes the 17-character VIN of a Tianye. Enter it and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the code itself. Our data for the brand covers one model, the Admiral, with model years from 2001 to 2007.
The decoder reads only the VIN, so it cannot tell you how a particular car was used or treated. Accident records, mileage, theft checks and previous owners come from a paid vehicle history report, and the decoder itself stays free and needs no registration.

The first three characters of a VIN are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. It names the maker and the country of manufacture. At the moment we have no WMI codes on record for Tianye, so this page has no prefix to list. Our list is not complete, and a VIN that starts with other characters is not made any less valid by that.
The model year sits in the tenth character. For the years in our Tianye data, that character is a digit: 1 stands for 2001, 2 for 2002, and so on up to 7 for 2007. The letters I, O and Q are never used in a VIN, which avoids confusion with the digits 1 and 0.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and the ninth is a check digit. North American VINs are required to use it, while many European VINs fill that position differently. The eleventh character points to the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number of the individual car.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is usually stamped on the car body and printed on the registration papers. Common places are the base of the windscreen on the driver side and the door pillar. Check the number on the car itself against the one in the documents.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI codes on record for Tianye yet, so we cannot give you a list here. The decoder still reads the rest of the VIN in the usual way.
Look at the tenth character of the VIN. In our data the Admiral covers 2001 to 2007, which would show as the digits 1 to 7 in that position. For example, a 4 there means 2004.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of previous owners. The decoder only translates the characters of the VIN, so it gives you the manufacturer, model year and country, nothing about the car's past.
Make sure the VIN has 17 characters and that the number on the car matches the registration documents. Ask the seller for service records and any paperwork that shows the age of the car. Then compare the model year from the tenth character with what the seller tells you.
