Our Tianma data is small: one model, the Century, with version data for model years 2005 to 2008 and a highest power figure of 125 hp. We have no body style data for the brand. A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 is the model year, character 11 is the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Tianma, so there are no real prefixes to show you as examples, and we cannot name a country of manufacture for the brand. That is a gap in our list, not a verdict on any VIN you hold.
The model year is easier to illustrate. Our version data for the Century runs from 2005 to 2008, and in position 10 those years are written as 5 for 2005, 6 for 2006, 7 for 2007 and 8 for 2008. Check that character first when you look at a Tianma VIN.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

It is usually printed on a plate at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side, on a sticker in a door frame, and in the registration papers. Compare the car with the documents character by character.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We have no WMI codes mapped to Tianma yet, so we cannot list any for this brand.
Look at the 10th character. In the 2005 to 2008 range covered by our data it is 5, 6, 7 or 8, standing for 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It reads only the 17 characters.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the one in the papers, and that the 10th character fits the year the seller states. Then ask for service records and see the car in person before you pay.
