This page decodes the VIN of a Silence. Enter the 17 characters and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the number itself. It is free and needs no registration.
Our data for the brand is small: one model, the S04 Nanocar, and version data for model year 2023 only. A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We do not yet have any WMI codes mapped to Silence, so there is no code to show here as an example. If a code is missing from our list, that says nothing about the VIN itself, because our list is not complete.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North America requires it, while many European VINs fill that position differently. Position 10 is the model year. For the 2023 model year covered by our data, that character is P. Position 11 is the plant, and positions 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |

Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look at the registration document first, since the VIN is printed there. The same 17 characters are also marked on the vehicle itself, though the exact place differs from one vehicle to another.
The first three characters are the WMI, which points to the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI codes on file for Silence yet, so for now the decoder may return less on manufacturer and country than it does for other brands.
Check the tenth character. A P stands for 2023, which is the model year our version data covers for the S04 Nanocar. The decoder reads this character for you.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also does not give body style or power figures for Silence, as we have no data on those.
Compare the VIN on the vehicle with the one in the registration papers, and make sure all 17 characters match. Then run the number through the decoder to see whether the model year and country fit what the seller tells you.
