This page decodes VINs for ShuangHuan vehicles. Our data lists one model, the Sceo, which is an SUV, with version data covering model years 2005 to 2011. Enter the 17 characters and the decoder reads what they encode: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture.
A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder itself is free and needs no registration.

The first three characters of a VIN are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. We do not currently have any WMI codes mapped to ShuangHuan, so there is no code or country to quote here. Our list is not complete, and a VIN that begins with other characters is not a problem for that reason.
The tenth character gives the model year. For the years in our ShuangHuan data, 2005 is shown as 5, 2008 as 8 and 2011 as B. A Sceo from 2008, for example, carries an 8 in position 10.
The rest of the code follows the standard layout. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 11 marks the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The check digit is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position differently. The letters I, O and Q are never used in a VIN.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Start with the registration papers or the sales documents, where the 17 characters are printed. On the vehicle itself, look for a plate or sticker, often at the base of the windscreen or in the door frame. Copy it carefully, since I, O and Q never appear.
Characters 1 to 3 are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country of manufacture. We have no WMI codes mapped to ShuangHuan at the moment, so we cannot name a typical prefix. Our list is incomplete, so a different prefix does not mean anything is wrong.
Look at the tenth character. Within the 2005 to 2011 range in our data, 5 means 2005, 6 means 2006, 7 means 2007, 8 means 2008, 9 means 2009, A means 2010 and B means 2011.
It reads only the VIN characters. Accidents, mileage, theft records and the number of owners are not stored in the VIN, so the decoder cannot tell you any of them.
Compare the VIN on the car with the one in the papers, and make sure they match exactly. Check that the model year in the tenth character fits the age the seller gives. Then inspect the SUV in person and ask for service records.
