This decoder reads the 17-character VIN of a SCG and shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand is small: one model, the 003, and version data for model year 2017 only.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, while the decoder itself is free and needs no registration.
Pick a SCG model to see how its VIN works.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country of manufacture. At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to SCG, so we cannot point to a specific prefix for the brand here. This only reflects the limits of our list, not the quality of any particular VIN.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North American VINs require it, while many European VINs fill it differently. Character 10 gives the model year. For a SCG 003 from the model year covered in our data, 2017, that character is H. Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

It is usually visible at the base of the windshield on the driver's side and printed on the registration documents. Read all 17 characters carefully, because the letters I, O and Q do not appear in a VIN.
The first three characters are the WMI, which names the manufacturer and country. We have no WMI codes mapped to SCG yet, so the decoder can only report what it recognises from the full VIN.
Look at the 10th character. An H stands for 2017, which is the model year our SCG version data covers. Our data lists one model, the 003.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft or owners. None of that is stored in the VIN itself. The decoder reads the characters and nothing more.
Compare the VIN on the car with the VIN in the paperwork and make sure they match exactly. Then decode it to confirm the model year and manufacturer fit what the seller says, and ask to see service records.
