Enter a 17-character VIN and the HistoVIN decoder reads what is written into the code itself: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for Rinspeed covers three models, Budii, Etos and Oasis, with version data for model years 2015 to 2017 and SUV as the body style.
The decoder reads only the VIN, so it says nothing about accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, while the decoder itself stays free and needs no registration.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI, which points to the maker and the country of manufacture. We currently have no WMI code on file for Rinspeed, so there is no list of prefixes to show here. The decoder still reads whatever you enter and reports what it can recognise.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North America requires it, while many European VINs fill that position differently. Character 10 gives the model year, and for the years in our Rinspeed data the letters are F for 2015, G for 2016 and H for 2017. Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. VINs in this 17-character form exist for cars built since 1981.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is normally printed in the vehicle registration document and also marked on the car itself, often at the base of the windscreen or on a plate or stamping elsewhere on the body. Check that the number on the car matches the paperwork.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and country of manufacture. We have no WMI code on file for Rinspeed at the moment, but you can still enter the full VIN and see what the decoder reads from it.
Look at the 10th character. In the range covered by our Rinspeed data, F means 2015, G means 2016 and H means 2017. The decoder shows this for you once you enter the VIN.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also does not tell you the condition of a particular car.
Make sure the VIN has 17 characters and that the number on the car matches the registration document. Decode it to see whether the model year and country of manufacture fit what the seller tells you, and ask to see service records.
