This free decoder reads the 17-character VIN of a Qvale and shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand covers one model, the Mangusta, a convertible, with model years from 1999 to 2002.
The decoder reads only the VIN itself. It does not show accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, because a VIN does not contain them. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We do not currently have a WMI code mapped to Qvale, so there is no list of codes or countries to show here. The decoder can still read the rest of the VIN, and the codes we do recognise for a brand are the ones we list on its page.
Position 10 holds the model year. For the years in our Qvale data the characters are X for 1999, Y for 2000, 1 for 2001 and 2 for 2002. A Mangusta with a 10th character of Y, for example, points to model year 2000.
Characters 4 to 8 are the descriptor section, and position 9 is the check digit. North American VINs require the check digit, while many European VINs fill that position differently. Position 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

It is usually printed on the vehicle registration papers and stamped or plated on the car itself, often visible at the base of the windscreen or on a door pillar. Copy all 17 characters exactly, remembering that I, O and Q do not appear.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and country. We have no WMI code mapped to Qvale at the moment, so the decoder may not match the manufacturer from those characters alone.
Look at the 10th character. In the range we cover, X means 1999, Y means 2000, 1 means 2001 and 2 means 2002.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners, since none of that is stored in the VIN. It also does not give condition, equipment or service history.
Compare the VIN on the car with the one on the registration papers, and check that the 10th character fits the model year you were told. Because the Mangusta is a convertible, it is also worth inspecting the roof and its seals in person.
