This page decodes the 17-character VIN of a Praga. From the VIN alone it reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture, and it needs no registration. Our version data for the brand is small: one model, the R1, with model year 2013 and a highest listed power of 235 hp.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.

The first three characters of a VIN are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. It tells you who built the vehicle and in which country. We have no WMI codes mapped to Praga at the moment, so there is no list of codes or countries to show here. Our list is not complete, and a VIN that starts with other characters is not a problem in itself.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North American VINs require it, while many European VINs fill it differently. Character 10 is the model year. For the R1 in our data, model year 2013, that character is D. Character 11 is the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The letters I, O and Q are never used in a VIN.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

It is normally printed in the vehicle registration document and also on the vehicle itself, often at the base of the windscreen or on a plate at the door pillar. Copy all 17 characters exactly as they appear.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and country. We have no WMI codes mapped to Praga yet, so the decoder may not match a brand from them. That says nothing about the VIN being wrong.
Look at the 10th character. A D stands for 2013, which is the model year of the R1 in our data. Other letters and digits map to other years in a fixed cycle.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft status or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also gives no body style for Praga, since we have none on record.
Make sure the VIN in the documents matches the one on the vehicle, and that it has exactly 17 characters with no I, O or Q. Then inspect the car in person and ask the seller for service records.
