Enter a 17-character VIN and the Pagani decoder reads what is encoded in it: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand covers 3 models, among them Huayra, Utopia and Zonda, with model years from 1999 to the present, since some models are still built. The body style in our data is Roadster, and the highest power figure we hold is 800 hp.
The decoder does not tell you how a car has been used or treated. Accidents, mileage, theft records and previous owners are not stored in the VIN itself, and that information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder is free and needs no registration.
Every VIN of a car built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI, which names the maker and the country. For Pagani we have no WMI codes on record yet, so there is no list of codes or countries to show here. That is a gap in our data, not a statement about any particular VIN.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North America requires it, while many European VINs fill that position differently. Character 10 gives the model year, character 11 the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
The model year character is often the easiest part to check. An X in position 10 means 1999, the first year in our Pagani data, and an R means 2024. Years from 2001 to 2009 use the digits 1 to 9, and the letters start again at A for 2010.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.
Enter the 17-character VIN and see the factory basics in seconds.
Look at the registration documents and at the VIN plate or stamping on the car itself. The number in the papers should match the number on the car, character for character.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and country. We have no WMI codes on record for Pagani yet, so the decoder may not name the brand from those characters alone.
Read the 10th character. For example, X stands for 1999, the earliest year in our Pagani data, and S stands for 2025. Our data runs from 1999 to the present.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, because none of that is part of a VIN. It also does not give a price or a condition rating.
Compare the VIN in the papers with the VIN on the car, and check that the decoded model year fits the car you are being offered. Then ask for service records and have the car inspected in person.
