What is a Moke VIN decoder?

Enter a 17-character VIN and the decoder reads what is built into it: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for Moke lists one model name, Electric, with version data for model years 2019 to 2022. The decoder is free and needs no registration.

A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, which is a separate step from this page.

What the Moke decoder shows

  • The manufacturer and brand (Moke)
  • The model year
  • The country of manufacture
  • The assembly plant, when it is coded
  • The vehicle type and body style, where the manufacturer encodes it
  • Engine and model details, where available
  • Whether the VIN structure and check digit are valid

How the VIN of a Moke is read

The first three characters of a VIN are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Moke, so there is no code to point to here and no country to name. Our list is not complete, and a VIN that begins with other characters is not a problem in itself. If the manufacturer or country does not appear for your VIN, that only reflects the codes we currently recognise.

The tenth character is the model year, and it works the same way on every VIN. For the years in our Moke data the letters are K for 2019, L for 2020, M for 2021 and N for 2022. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit that North American VINs require and many European VINs fill differently, and character 11 points to the plant. Characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The letters I, O and Q are never used in a VIN.

How a VIN is built

Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.

Check digit9Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid

Learn more about VINs

A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Before you buy a used Moke

  • Compare the VIN on the dashboard, the door frame and the documents. All three should match.
  • Look for signs of tampering around the VIN plate and the door frame sticker.
  • Ask for the service history and check it against the car.
  • Run a full history report to see recorded damage, mileage and theft records.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the VIN on a Moke?

Look at the registration document first, since the VIN is printed there. On the vehicle itself it is normally on a plate or stamped into the body or frame, though the exact spot differs between vehicles. Copy all 17 characters and remember that I, O and Q never appear.

What do the first characters of a Moke VIN tell me?

The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI codes mapped to Moke right now, so we cannot list any here. That does not make any particular VIN wrong.

How do I find the model year of a Moke from the VIN?

Read the tenth character. In the range covered by our Moke data, K means 2019, L means 2020, M means 2021 and N means 2022. Our version data for the Electric runs from 2019 to 2022.

What can the Moke VIN decoder not show?

It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft status or earlier owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. We also have no body style or power figures for Moke, so the decoder will not give those.

What should I check before buying a used Moke?

Compare the VIN on the registration document with the VIN on the vehicle, and check that the tenth character matches the model year you were told. Then ask for service records and look at the vehicle in person.
