Enter a 17-character VIN and the decoder reads what is built into it: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. It is free and needs no registration. For MINEmobility, our data covers three models, City EV, MPV EV and Sport EV, with version data for the 2018 model year and the Hatchback body style.
The decoder reads only the VIN itself, so it says nothing about accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
Every VIN of a car built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. It tells you who built the vehicle and in which country. At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to MINEmobility, so we cannot list any here, and we do not name a country of manufacture for the brand. That is a gap in our list, not a statement about your car. A VIN that starts with other characters is not a problem in itself.
Characters 4 to 8 are the descriptor section, which the manufacturer uses to describe the vehicle. Character 9 is the check digit. North American cars must use it, while many European VINs fill that position differently. The tenth character gives the model year. Our version data for MINEmobility covers only 2018, and the letter for 2018 is J. The same letter was also used for 1988, so the model range helps when you read it.
Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number of that particular vehicle. Check the VIN you are decoding against the one on the car, because a single wrong character changes the result.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

On most cars it is printed at the base of the windscreen on the driver side, on a sticker in the door frame, and in the registration papers. Compare these places, and make sure the number is the same everywhere.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country of manufacture. We do not yet have a WMI mapped to MINEmobility, so we cannot give you a code to compare against. The decoder still reads the characters you enter and shows what it can.
Look at the tenth character of the VIN. For the 2018 model year, which is the one our version data covers for this brand, the letter is J. The decoder translates this character for you.
It cannot tell you about accidents, mileage, theft or how many owners the car has had. None of that is stored in the VIN. It also does not give a power figure, because we have none on record for this brand.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the one in the papers, and that the model year fits the car in front of you. Our data lists City EV, MPV EV and Sport EV, so check that the model on the documents matches the car. Then look at the service history and have the car inspected in person.
