Enter a 17-character VIN and the decoder reads what is built into it: the manufacturer code, the model year and the country of manufacture. For Minelli our data is small. It lists one model, the TF 1800, with the Convertible body style, and its version data covers model years 1998 to 2001.
The VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, while the decoder itself stays free and needs no registration.

A VIN has 17 characters and never uses the letters I, O or Q. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. For Minelli we have no WMI codes on record yet, so we cannot list any here or name a country of manufacture. Our list is not complete, and that says nothing about any particular VIN.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North American VINs must use it, while many European VINs fill that position differently, so do not read too much into it. Character 10 is the model year, character 11 the plant, and characters 12 to 17 the serial number.
The model year character is the easiest part to check on a Minelli. Within the 1998 to 2001 range of our data, W stands for 1998, X for 1999, Y for 2000 and 1 for 2001. A tenth character of Y would therefore point to model year 2000.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Start with the vehicle registration papers, then look at the car itself. VINs are commonly found at the base of the windshield or on a label in the door opening. Make sure the number on the car matches the one in the documents.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We have no WMI codes on record for Minelli, so we cannot show a list. The decoder still reads the other positions, such as the model year character.
Look at the 10th character. In the range covered by our data, W means 1998, X means 1999, Y means 2000 and 1 means 2001. Enter the full VIN and the decoder reads it for you.
It reads only the VIN itself, so it shows manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture where the data allows. It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or past owners. It also cannot give engine power for Minelli, as we have no figure in our data.
Compare the VIN on the car with the one in the registration documents, and check that the model year character fits the age of the car as advertised. The TF 1800 in our data is a Convertible, so look closely at the roof and its seals and at signs of water inside. A test drive and an inspection by a mechanic are worth the effort.
