This page decodes the 17-character VIN of a Milan. Our data for the brand is small: one model, Red, and one model year, 2020. Enter a VIN and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the characters themselves, with no registration and no cost.
A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, so the decoder cannot show them. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Milan, so we cannot name a code or a country for the brand. Our list is not complete, and a VIN is still read by the same general rules whatever its first characters are.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North America requires it, while many European VINs fill that position differently. Character 10 is the model year. In our data the Milan Red is covered for 2020, and the year letter for 2020 is L. Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |

A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look at the vehicle registration document first, since the VIN is normally printed there. On the car it is usually visible at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side or on a plate in the door frame. Compare it with the papers character by character.
The first three characters are the WMI, which stands for manufacturer and country. We do not have any WMI codes mapped to Milan yet, so the decoder cannot tell you which code to expect. That does not make a VIN with other starting characters wrong.
Check character 10 of the VIN. Our version data for Milan covers 2020 only, and the letter for 2020 is L. If your VIN shows a different letter in that position, the decoder will report the year that letter stands for.
It reads only the 17 characters, so it gives no accident records, mileage, theft status or owner history. We also have no body style or power figures for Milan in our data.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the registration document and any sales paperwork. Then look at the service records, inspect the car in person, and ask the seller for proof of mileage.
