Enter a 17-character VIN and the decoder reads what is written into it: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. For Metrocab, our data covers one model, the Taxi, with model years from 1991 to 2006 and Hatchback as the body style. The highest power figure in that data is 90 hp.
A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, while the decoder itself is free and needs no registration.

Every VIN of a car built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 is the model year, character 11 is the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Metrocab, so there is no list of prefixes or countries to show here. Our list is not complete, and a VIN that starts with other characters is not a problem in itself. If you decode one, the result reflects what our data holds, nothing more.
The tenth character is the easiest to check yourself. Our Metrocab data runs from 1991 to 2006, which on the model year scale means M for 1991 up to 6 for 2006. A VIN with T in that position points to 1996, and one with Y points to 2000. The check digit in position 9 is required in North America, while many European VINs fill it differently.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.
Enter the 17-character VIN and see the factory basics in seconds.
Look at the vehicle registration documents first, where the VIN is printed in full. On the car itself it is usually stamped or plated in a visible spot such as the base of the windscreen or a door pillar. Copy all 17 characters exactly.
The first three characters are the WMI, which tells you the manufacturer. We have no WMI codes mapped to Metrocab yet, so we cannot list any here. That is a gap in our list, not a verdict on your VIN.
Check the tenth character. For the years in our Metrocab data, M stands for 1991, T for 1996, Y for 2000 and 6 for 2006. Our version data for the brand covers 1991 to 2006.
It reads only the VIN, so it gives the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft and previous owners are not stored in a VIN.
Make sure the VIN in the documents matches the one on the car, and that it has 17 characters without I, O or Q. Then compare the decoded model year with what the seller tells you, and ask for service and ownership records.
