Enter a 17-character VIN and the Maxus decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the code. Our data lists 8 Maxus models, among them the D60, D90, G10, G20, G50, Mifa 9, T60 and T90, in SUV and Van body styles. The version data covers model years from 2010 to the present, and the highest power figure in it is 224 hp.
The decoder reads the VIN and nothing else, so it cannot tell you about accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, while the decoder itself is free and needs no registration.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is the check digit, character 10 is the model year, character 11 is the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Maxus, so we cannot list the codes or the countries behind them. That is a gap in our list, not a verdict on any VIN. The decoder still reads the characters you enter and shows what it can work out from them.
The tenth character is the easiest part to check by hand. For the years our Maxus data covers, A stands for 2010, L for 2020 and T for 2026. So a VIN with L in tenth position points to model year 2020.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.
Enter the 17-character VIN and see the factory basics in seconds.
Start with the registration document, where the VIN is printed in full. On the vehicle itself it is usually shown on a plate or stamping, often visible at the base of the windscreen or on a door frame.
The first three characters are the WMI, which names the manufacturer and the country. We do not know any WMI codes for Maxus yet, so we cannot give you a list to compare against. The decoder will still read whatever 17-character VIN you enter.
Look at the tenth character. A letter or digit there stands for a year, for example A for 2010, K for 2019 or R for 2024. Our version data for Maxus starts at 2010, so letters from A onward are the ones to expect for the model years we cover.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. The decoder gives you the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture, and no more.
Compare the VIN on the vehicle with the one in the registration papers and make sure they match character for character. Then run it through the decoder to see that the model year and country fit what the seller tells you. Models like the T60 or D90 can be sold in several versions, so ask the seller to confirm which one you are looking at.
