Enter the 17-character VIN of a Lynk & Co and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the code itself. Our version data for the brand covers 8 models, among them the 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 08 and 09, with model years from 2017 to the present, since some models are still built.
The VIN does not hold a car's accident record, mileage, theft status or past owners, so the decoder cannot show any of that. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, while the decoder stays free and needs no registration.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. The first three characters are the WMI, which names the manufacturer and the region. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 is the model year, character 11 is the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
We have no WMI codes on file for Lynk & Co at the moment, so there is no list of prefixes to show you here, and we cannot name a country of manufacture from our own brand data. Our list is not complete, and a VIN that starts with other characters is not a problem in itself. Whatever the first three characters are, the decoder reads them by the general VIN rules.
The model year is the easiest part to check yourself. Within the 2017 onward range of our Lynk & Co data, H stands for 2017, J for 2018, K for 2019, L for 2020, M for 2021, N for 2022, P for 2023, R for 2024, S for 2025 and T for 2026. Look at the tenth character of your VIN and compare.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

On most cars the VIN is printed on a plate visible at the base of the windshield, on a sticker in a door frame and in the registration documents. Compare at least two of these, as they should show the same 17 characters.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and region. We have no WMI codes on file for this brand yet, so the decoder applies the general rules to whatever you enter.
Look at the tenth character. For example, L means 2020, M means 2021 and P means 2023. Our version data for the brand begins with model year 2017, which is H.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also does not tell you the condition of the car or whether a specific one is worth its price.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the one in the documents, and that the tenth character fits the model year in the advert. Then ask for service records and have the car inspected before you pay.
