The Kimera VIN decoder reads the 17 characters of a VIN and shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand lists two models, EVO37 and EVO38, and our version data covers model year 2021. The decoder is free and needs no registration.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners, so the decoder cannot show them. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
The first three characters of a VIN are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. It names the manufacturer and the country of manufacture. At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Kimera, so we cannot list codes or countries for the brand here. That is a gap in our list and says nothing about any particular VIN.
The tenth character is the model year. Our Kimera version data covers 2021 only, and in a VIN that year is written as the letter M, so a 2021 EVO37 or EVO38 would carry an M in position 10. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 11 marks the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The letters I, O and Q are never used in a VIN.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |

A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and country. We have no WMI codes mapped to Kimera yet, so the decoder applies the general VIN rules to what you enter.
Check the tenth character. Our Kimera data covers model year 2021, which is the letter M. Other letters and digits stand for other years, but our version data for the brand does not go beyond 2021.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It reads only the characters themselves.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the VIN in the papers, and that it has 17 characters with no I, O or Q. Ask the seller for service records and look closely at the car before you agree on a price.
