This page decodes the VIN of a JAC for free, with no registration. Enter the 17 characters and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the code itself. Our data lists four JAC models, among them JS4, Refine, Rein and T8 Pro, with model years from 2006 to the present, since some models are still built.
The decoder reads only the VIN and nothing else. It does not show accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners, because none of that is stored in the number. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. The code we map to JAC is LJ1, and it belongs to China. Our list is not complete, so a VIN that begins with other characters is not a problem in itself. LJ1 is simply the code we recognise for the brand.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North America requires the check digit, while many European VINs fill that position differently. The tenth character gives the model year. A P there means 2023, an R means 2024, and a 6 means 2006, the start of the range in our data. Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Letters I, O and Q are never used in a VIN, so you will not find them in any of the 17 positions. If you are copying a number from a document and see one of those letters, it was most likely misread, usually a 1 or a 0.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

It is usually on a plate at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side, on a sticker in the door frame, and in the registration papers. Compare these places, because the number should be the same in all of them.
LJ1 is the WMI we map to JAC, and it belongs to China. It tells you who made the vehicle and in which country. It does not tell you the model or the equipment.
Look at the tenth character. For example, P stands for 2023 and R for 2024. Our version data for JAC covers model years from 2006 to the present.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft or the number of owners. The VIN only identifies the vehicle, and it holds none of its history.
Check that the VIN on the car matches the registration papers and that the tenth character fits the year in the advert. Then decode the number here and compare the manufacturer and country with what the seller says. Finally, ask for service records and have the car inspected in person.
