This free decoder reads the 17-character VIN of an Iran Khodro and shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand covers two models, Samand and Soren, with version data for model years 2003 to 2008. The body style we have on file is sedan, and the highest power figure in our data is 113 hp.
The decoder only reads the VIN itself, so it says nothing about accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
Every VIN of a car built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is a check digit, character 10 is the model year, character 11 is the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Iran Khodro, so we cannot list the codes we recognise for the brand or the countries they belong to. Our list is not complete, and that says nothing about any particular VIN.
The model year character is easier to use as an example. Within the 2003 to 2008 range of our version data, a 3 in position 10 means 2003, a 5 means 2005 and an 8 means 2008. On the check digit, it is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position differently.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look at the registration documents first, since the VIN is normally printed there. On the car itself it is often found on a plate or stamping, for example at the base of the windscreen or on the door pillar. Compare the number on the car with the one on the papers character by character.
The first three characters are the WMI, which points to the manufacturer and the country. We currently have no WMI codes mapped to Iran Khodro, so we cannot give you a specific code to look for.
Check the 10th character. For the years in our data, 3 stands for 2003, 4 for 2004, 5 for 2005, 6 for 2006, 7 for 2007 and 8 for 2008. The decoder reads this character for you and shows the year.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It reads only the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the registration papers, and decode it to see that the model year fits the seller's description. Then inspect the car in person and ask for service records, since the VIN alone says nothing about condition.
