This page decodes the 17-character VIN of an INEOS. From the VIN alone it reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand currently lists one model, the Grenadier, with model years from 2022 to present, a Wagon body style and a highest power of 286 hp.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder itself is free and needs no registration.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to INEOS, so we cannot list any here or name a country for them. Our list is not complete, and it will grow as we add data.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. It is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position differently. Character 10 is the model year. For the years in our INEOS data the letters are N for 2022, P for 2023, R for 2024, S for 2025 and T for 2026.
Character 11 is the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number. The standard layout applies to cars built since 1981. If you enter a VIN for a Grenadier, the model year character is usually the quickest way to see whether the year in the listing matches.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is normally printed on the vehicle registration document and is also marked on the vehicle itself. Compare the two, and make sure every one of the 17 characters matches before you enter it here.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and country. We have no WMI codes mapped to INEOS yet, so we have nothing specific to list. A VIN that starts with other characters is not a problem, because our list is incomplete.
Look at the 10th character. In the years our INEOS data covers, N means 2022, P means 2023, R means 2024, S means 2025 and T means 2026.
It reads only the VIN, so it gives the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. It does not show accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners.
Check that the VIN on the paperwork matches the VIN on the vehicle, and that the model year character fits the year in the advert. Our data lists the Grenadier as a Wagon, so the body style should fit too. Then ask the seller about service records and past ownership.
