About the IMSA S-class

Every car IMSA S-class carries a 17-character VIN, and the free decoder on this page turns it into the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. The first three characters identify the manufacturer and region, the 10th stands for the model year, and the 11th often marks the plant.

Nothing in the VIN reveals what happened to the car after it left the factory. Damage, mileage, theft entries and ownership changes are covered by a paid vehicle history report. Before you buy a car IMSA S-class, make sure the VIN on the vehicle is identical to the one in the registration document and in the sales contract.

Learn more about VINs

A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Before you buy a used IMSA S-class

  • Compare the VIN on the dashboard, the door frame and the documents. All three should match.
  • Look for signs of tampering around the VIN plate and the door frame sticker.
  • Ask for the service history and check it against the car.
  • Run a full history report to see recorded damage, mileage and theft records.
