Enter the 17-character VIN of a Hongqi and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture from the code itself. Our data for the brand covers 9 models, among them E-HS9, H5, H7, H9, HS3, HS5, HS7, L5 and Ousado, in two body styles, SUV and Sedan, with model years from 2014 to 2023. The decoder is free and needs no registration.
A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, so the decoder cannot show them. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI codes mapped to Hongqi at the moment, so we cannot list any here. A VIN that begins with other characters is not a problem, because our list of codes is not complete.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North American VINs must use it, while many European VINs fill it differently. Character 10 gives the model year. For a Hongqi from our range, E means 2014, L means 2020 and P means 2023. Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number of the individual car.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |

A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side, on a sticker in the door frame, and in the registration papers. The number in all of these places should be identical.
The first three characters are the WMI, which names the manufacturer and the country. We do not have any WMI codes mapped to Hongqi yet, so the decoder cannot rely on a listed code for this brand. That does not mean your VIN is wrong.
Check the 10th character. E stands for 2014, L for 2020, N for 2022 and P for 2023, which covers the end of the model years in our data. Our version data for Hongqi runs from 2014 to 2023.
It reads only the VIN, so it shows no accident damage, mileage, theft records or number of owners. It also cannot tell you the condition of a particular car.
Compare the VIN on the car with the one in the registration documents and make sure they match. Then decode it and see whether the model year and the manufacturer fit the car and the seller's description.
