Enter a 17-character VIN and the GFG Style decoder reads what the number itself contains: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand covers two models, Kangaroo and Sibylla, in SUV and Sedan body styles, with model years from 2018 to the present. The decoder is free and needs no registration.
A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, so the decoder cannot show them. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
Every VIN on a car built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. We have no WMI codes on file for GFG Style at the moment, so we cannot list the codes or countries here. That is a limit of our list, not a comment on any VIN you hold.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North American VINs must use it, while many European VINs fill it differently. Character 11 marks the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
The model year sits at position 10. For the years in our GFG Style data, J means 2018, K means 2019, L means 2020, M means 2021, N means 2022, P means 2023, R means 2024, S means 2025 and T means 2026. A VIN with J in the tenth place therefore points to a 2018 model year, the first year in our data for this brand.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |

A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Start with the vehicle registration papers or the insurance documents, where the VIN is normally printed. On the car itself it is commonly found at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side or on a label in the door frame.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI codes on file for GFG Style yet, so a VIN that starts with any characters can still be entered in the decoder.
Look at the tenth character. In the range covered by our data, J stands for 2018, K for 2019 and L for 2020, and the letters continue in order for later years. Our version data for the brand runs from 2018 to the present.
It reads only the VIN, so it gives no accident record, mileage, theft status or owner history. It also does not tell you the condition of an individual car.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the registration papers and that the tenth character fits the model year in the advert. Ask for service records and have the car inspected before you pay.
