Enter the 17-character VIN of a Forthing and the decoder reads what is encoded in it: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand covers four models, T5, T5 EVO, Xinghai S7 and Yacht/4 U-Tour, with model years from 2018 up to the present, since some are still being built. The body style in our data is SUV, and the highest power we have on record is 204 hp.
The VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder itself is free and needs no registration.

The first three characters are the WMI, the world manufacturer identifier. At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Forthing, so we cannot list any here or name the countries behind them. That is a gap in our list, not a statement about your car. A VIN starting with other characters is not a problem, and the decoder will simply show what it can read.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is the check digit. North American VINs must use it as a check digit, while many European VINs fill it differently. Characters 12 to 17 are the serial number, and character 11 points to the plant. Letters I, O and Q are never used in a VIN.
The model year sits at position 10. A J there means 2018, the first year in our Forthing data, K is 2019 and N is 2022. A car from 2024 carries R, and one from 2025 carries S. Check this character first when a seller's stated year does not match the paperwork.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

It is usually printed on a plate at the base of the windshield on the driver's side and on a sticker in the door frame. It also appears in the registration papers. Read all 17 characters carefully, because I, O and Q are never used.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We have no WMI codes mapped to Forthing yet, so the decoder cannot list them for this brand. That does not make any VIN wrong.
Look at the 10th character. For the years in our data, J is 2018, K is 2019, L is 2020, M is 2021, N is 2022, P is 2023, R is 2024 and S is 2025. The decoder reads this character for you.
It reads only the VIN, so it gives the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft and owners are not stored in the VIN, so the decoder cannot show them.
Compare the VIN on the windshield plate, the door frame sticker and the registration papers, and make sure they match exactly. Then check that the model year the decoder reads agrees with what the seller says. Ask to see service records and have the car inspected in person.
