This page decodes the VIN of a FOMM. Enter the 17 characters and the decoder reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture, free and without registration. Our data for the brand is small: one model, the One, with version data for model year 2018 only.
The VIN itself does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, so run the decoder first and look at a report only if you need that detail.

Every VIN has 17 characters and never uses the letters I, O or Q. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI, which names the maker and the region. At the moment we have no WMI code mapped to FOMM, so we cannot list one here. That is a gap in our list and says nothing about any particular VIN.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North America requires the check digit, while many European VINs fill that position differently. Character 10 is the model year. For the FOMM One in our data, model year 2018, that character is the letter J.
Character 11 usually points to the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number of the individual car. Reading these positions tells you how the car was identified at the factory. It does not tell you what has happened to it since.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is normally printed in the vehicle registration document and on a plate or stamping on the car itself, often visible at the base of the windscreen or on the door frame. Compare the number on the car with the one in the paperwork before you enter it.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and region. We have no WMI codes mapped to FOMM yet, so the decoder may not link the first three characters to the brand from our list.
Look at the 10th character of the VIN. Our version data for the FOMM One covers model year 2018, which is shown by the letter J in that position.
It reads only the VIN, so it cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners. None of these are stored in the 17 characters.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the registration document, and that the model year the decoder gives fits the car and the seller's description. Then inspect the car in person and ask the seller for service records.
