This page decodes the 17-character VIN of a Fittipaldi. It reads the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture straight from the characters. Our data for the brand is small: one model, the EF7, with version data for model year 2018.
The decoder looks only at the VIN, so it does not show accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report. The decoder itself is free and needs no registration.

Every VIN built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. Characters 1 to 3 form the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, character 9 is the check digit, character 10 is the model year, character 11 is the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Fittipaldi, so there is no list of prefixes or countries to show here. That only reflects the limits of our data. A VIN starting with other characters is not a problem, and the decoder still reads whatever the VIN itself allows.
The model year is the easiest part to check. Our version data for the EF7 covers 2018 only, and 2018 is written as the letter J in position 10. So an EF7 of that year would normally have a J as the tenth character. Position 9 is a required check digit in North America, while many European VINs fill it differently.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |

Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is usually printed on the vehicle itself, often near the base of the windscreen or on a door pillar. It is also written in the registration papers. Compare the two before you decode it.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We do not currently have any WMI codes mapped to Fittipaldi, so we cannot list specific ones here.
Look at the tenth character of the VIN. Our data for the EF7 covers model year 2018, which is the letter J.
It cannot show accidents, mileage, theft records or the number of owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. It also gives no body style or power figures for Fittipaldi, as we do not have them in our data.
Make sure the VIN on the vehicle matches the one in the documents, and that the tenth character fits the model year you were told. Ask for service records and look at the vehicle in person.
