Enter a 17-character VIN and the Fisker decoder reads what is built into the number itself: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand covers three models, EMotion, Karma and Ocean, with model years from 2011 to 2024 and the body styles Sedan and SUV.
The decoder is free and needs no registration. It does not show accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners, because none of that is stored in a VIN. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used, so they cannot be mistaken for 1 and 0. The first three characters are the World Manufacturer Identifier, or WMI. The WMI we map to Fisker is YH4, and it belongs to Finland. Our list of codes is not complete, so a Fisker VIN that begins differently is not a problem in itself. YH4 is simply the code we recognise for the brand.
Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, and character 9 is a check digit. North American VINs must have a correct check digit, while many European VINs fill that position in a different way, so do not rely on it alone. Character 11 points to the assembly plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
The model year sits in position 10. For the years in our Fisker data, the letter B stands for 2011, N for 2022 and R for 2024. So a VIN with N in the tenth place points to the 2022 model year. The letters repeat in a 30-year cycle, so the decoder reads them together with the rest of the VIN.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.
Enter the 17-character VIN and see the factory basics in seconds.
It is usually visible at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side, and it is printed on the registration papers. Copy all 17 characters exactly as shown.
The first three characters are the WMI. YH4 is the code we link to Fisker, and it belongs to Finland. Other codes may exist for the brand that our list does not include yet.
Look at the tenth character. For example, B means 2011, N means 2022 and R means 2024. Our version data for the brand runs from 2011 to 2024.
It cannot show accident damage, mileage, theft status or the number of owners. A VIN only identifies the vehicle, and it holds no record of what happened to it later.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the one in the documents, character by character. Then decode it and compare the model year and country with what the seller says. Ask to see service records and inspect the car in person.
