Enter a 17-character VIN and the Drako decoder reads what the number itself holds: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. It is free and needs no registration. In our data Drako has one model, the GTE, and the version data covers model year 2019 only.
A VIN does not record accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, so the decoder cannot show them. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Drako, so we cannot name a country of manufacture for the brand either. That only describes our list, which is not complete, and it says nothing about any particular VIN.
Characters 4 to 8 form the descriptor section, and character 9 is a check digit. It is required in North America, while many European VINs fill that position differently. The tenth character gives the model year. For model year 2019, the only year in our Drako data, that character is K. The eleventh character marks the plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

The VIN is normally on the vehicle registration papers and on the car itself, often at the base of the windscreen or on a plate or sticker in the door frame. Compare the number on the car with the one in the documents, character by character.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We do not have any WMI codes mapped to Drako yet, so the decoder cannot match them to the brand here. A VIN starting with other characters is not a problem because of that, since our list is simply incomplete.
Look at the tenth character of the VIN. Our Drako data covers model year 2019 only, and the letter for 2019 is K.
It cannot tell you about accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners, because none of that is stored in the VIN. We also have no body style or power figures for Drako in our data, so the decoder does not show them.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the registration papers and the sale documents. Ask for service records and inspect the car in person, or have someone qualified do it. Then decode the VIN to confirm that the model year fits the seller's description.
