The Doninvest VIN decoder reads the 17-character VIN and shows the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand lists three models, Assol, Kondor and Orion, in Sedan and Wagon body styles, with model years from 1998 to 2002 and a highest power of 106 hp. The decoder is free and needs no registration.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft records or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report.
Every VIN of a car built since 1981 has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer. We do not currently have any WMI codes mapped to Doninvest, so there are none to list here, and we cannot name a country of manufacture for them. That is a gap in our list. A Doninvest VIN that starts with other characters is not wrong because of it.
Characters 4 to 8 are the descriptor section, and character 9 is the check digit. North American VINs must use the check digit, while many European VINs fill that position differently. Character 11 shows the assembly plant and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Character 10 is the model year, and this is the easiest part to check by eye. For the range in our Doninvest data, W stands for 1998, X for 1999, Y for 2000, 1 for 2001 and 2 for 2002. A VIN with X in the tenth position, for example, points to model year 1999.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.

Look at the registration document first, then at the car itself. The VIN is often visible at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side or on a plate or sticker at the driver's door frame.
The first three characters are the WMI, the code for the manufacturer. We have no WMI codes mapped to Doninvest at the moment, so the decoder may not name the manufacturer from them. This does not mean your VIN is incorrect, because our list is not complete.
Read the tenth character. In the range covered by our data, W is 1998, X is 1999, Y is 2000, 1 is 2001 and 2 is 2002.
It reads only the VIN, so it gives the manufacturer, model year and country of manufacture. Accidents, mileage, theft and previous owners are not stored in the VIN.
Compare the VIN in the documents with the one on the car and make sure they match. Then decode it and see whether the model year fits what the seller says, since our data lists Assol, Kondor and Orion as Sedan or Wagon from 1998 to 2002. Ask the seller about mileage and past damage, because the VIN will not tell you.
