Enter a 17-character VIN and the Dadi decoder reads what the number itself contains: the manufacturer, the model year and the country of manufacture. Our data for the brand covers three models, among them City Leading, Shuttle and Smoothing, with model years from 2005 to 2011, and it lists SUV as the body style. The decoder is free and needs no registration.
A VIN does not contain accidents, mileage, theft or previous owners. That information comes from a paid vehicle history report, which is worth a look once you know the basics of the car.

Every VIN has 17 characters, and the letters I, O and Q are never used. The first three characters are the WMI, the code that identifies the manufacturer and the country. At the moment we have no WMI codes mapped to Dadi, so we cannot list any here or name a country of manufacture. Our list is not complete, and the decoder simply works with what we can recognise.
Characters 4 to 8 form the descriptor section, and character 9 is the check digit. North American VINs must use it as a check digit, while many European VINs fill it differently. Character 10 is the model year. For the years in our Dadi data, 2005 to 2011, that character would be 5 for 2005, 6 for 2006, 7 for 2007, 8 for 2008, 9 for 2009, A for 2010 and B for 2011. Character 11 marks the plant, and characters 12 to 17 are the serial number.
Every VIN has six parts. This is what each of them means.
| Part | Characters | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| WMI | 1 to 3 | World manufacturer identifier: who built the vehicle and where |
| VDS | 4 to 8 | Vehicle descriptor: model, body type and engine, as set by the manufacturer |
| Check digit | 9 | Control value that helps confirm the VIN is valid |
| Model year | 10 | Code for the model year |
| Plant | 11 | Code for the assembly plant |
| Serial | 12 to 17 | Production sequence number of this vehicle |
On the driver's side, visible through the windshield.
On a sticker on the door frame or the edge of the door.
Printed in the vehicle registration or title.
Stamped on the firewall or the frame on many models.
A VIN is built from six parts, and each one says something about the vehicle. Our guides explain how to read it and what it can and cannot tell you.
Enter the 17-character VIN and see the factory basics in seconds.
Look at the registration documents first, since the VIN is printed there. It is also marked on the vehicle itself, and you should compare the two.
The first three characters are the WMI, which identifies the manufacturer and the country. We have no WMI codes mapped to Dadi yet, and our list is incomplete, so the decoder may not tell you more from those characters alone.
Use the 10th character. Within the 2005 to 2011 range in our data, 5 means 2005, 9 means 2009, A means 2010 and B means 2011.
It reads only the VIN, so it says nothing about accidents, mileage, theft or owners. Those records are not stored in the number.
Make sure the VIN on the car matches the one in the papers, character by character, and that the model year fits the age the seller claims. Ask for service records and have the car inspected in person.
